Tetris Didn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Might Solve This

As any significant awards ceremony draws close, one notices a demand for introducing additional classifications to acknowledge unsung work and fill the passions of followers with niche passions.

My colleague previously argued supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. Equally deserving are board games, this being a passionate advocate's mission. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification supporting my request remains most pressing above others. Here's the proposal: There should be an award type for logic-based games.

Categorizing Game Types

Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and typically start arguments concluding with vague boundaries. This explains why movie academies don’t do it. Yet it remains a necessary evil for the industry of video games, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.

To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, classification by type becomes crucial.

Existing Game Classification System

Leading game ceremonies currently feature award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these award types effectively encompass a lot of ground, making space possible for most games within them.

Different situation exists for puzzle games. No appropriate category exists to put them. Consider three of this year’s best games, showing diverse approaches: structural challenges in a particular game, intense tile-matching of another game, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. Which classification works among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles released every year lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, if they accidentally match for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested independent game categories.

  • One classic puzzle game wasn’t nominated in any category that year
  • Another creative title missed out that year
  • Popular arranging title got ignored in 2021
  • Only a few puzzle games barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications

Value of Brain-Teasers

Frequently they represent modest productions, yet the craft of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Iconic mobile puzzle games rank among most popular titles worldwide and have been for many years.

The iconic tile-matching title competes with well-known building titles competing to become highest-selling title ever; it also contends for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks to the art of video games, while interacting with diverse game types.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. You could fill five nominees with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.

To emphasize again, these are games without proper classification at major gaming awards. Logic title developers are working at the demanding boundary game development, developing some of the purest expressions of gaming itself. Similar to film action specialists, they merit acknowledgment. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
