19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been achieved on hard courts
A comeback Medvedev claimed his first title for nearly 30 months with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.
The athlete, a ex- number one, has experienced a difficult period, winning just one match at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.
The player's varied form on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serve in especial - resulted in him exiting of the elite rankings and finally parting ways with former trainer Cervara.
Now training with Johansson and his other coach, he has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought competitive triumph over challenger Moutet.
This represents Medvedev's initial championship following the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt from spring of that year.
Victory also means he has won twenty-one victories at twenty-one various events.
"For the first time I have attended a event with my children simultaneously, so to secure a trophy is really nice," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.
"This title is in dedication of my younger daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I got when my child my daughter was born was for her."
Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his previous six finals, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.
Medvedev's retrieving strategy and frequent reactions on the playing surface had caused some to doubt if his ability to perform at the elite level was finished.
However the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and perform positively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.
Medvedev fought back from a disadvantage in the first set against the tricky opponent, securing 4 of the concluding five points to gain the advantage.
The pair traded break points in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour title, gained dominance to create a final set.
Moutet rescued 4 early-game opportunities in a competitive final set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to close out the victory.
Fittingly, Medvedev clinched victory with a rally at the front of the court, with his opponent unable to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
